Country-Rock Song : What do you think of it ?

Hi,

here is my latest recording. Everything played and mixed by myself.

It took me some time to get the acoustic-guitar fat and rhythmic.
And it was big challenge for my voice.

Seems really well recorded and performed. If anything, a LITTLE more bass, but this sound really good and I like the song. Good work.
 
The mids are crowdy in spots and the autotune is insane. How many layers did you process the same way?
 
good song, good instrumentation...
i guess it could be auto-tune (I have no experience with auto-tune),
but on some of the vocals there is almost a vocoder sound to the beginnings
of the some of the lines, it puts me off a little.
the instrumentals sound spot on to me, imho

@chugheshc : yes, its pitch correction + 4 Harmonics Voices with the "VoiceLive" effect unit from TC-Helicon.
I did'nt want to produce the "Cheer-Effect", where do you think is the autotune effect heard ?

Hi Steve,

Gave this tune a listen. The songwriting is great. I like the melody in the chorus. The only line that is akward "I had to find out for myself the hard way". It's awkward to sing. A slight change might make it flow better. Overall it's a well-written song and I really like the lyrical idea.

The production is a little tough to listen to though. It sounds to me like you're using Autotune on the lead vocals and the harmony vocals are all artificial. I'd be willing to bet you're using some kind of harmonizer. The net effect of all this is that the lead vocal ends with funny tails on all the words, and then the harmonizer effect that's manufacturing the backup vocals follows it exactly and mimics all those things. I also don't generally like harmonizing effects because the whole thing ends up sounding "too in tune". You're voice isn't bad. You should try a lot less auto tune and sing the harmonies yourself. Just let it all sound a little more natural and real.

It also sounds like you've got the harmonizer on the lead guitar. When you stick that behind the already harmonized lead vocals it's too much. Use that harmonizer sparingly! :)

It's a great song, just let the recording sound a little more natural. I like to hear people singing songs.

is that a direct git sound?
that may be the source of the mid prob mentioned by jake
(or part of it)
the auto tune (same as above)
the harmonies in genral are, well, lets just say thare REALLY in tune

thanks for your reviews. To explain a little, its just my hobby and I do not make any music business with it. Its just to improve my singin, playin and mixin' skills. ( my composing skill is very low indeed, I forgot to mention that the song is from Tim Mc Graw ) Anyway, your first impressions are very helpful, specially that you actually HEARD the harmonizing effect unit, which should'nt be heard. So I will try to improve that.
Country is such a great music, and I heard your music Aaron, I am very impressed. Specially that you CAN compose and write songs.
But my first step is to learn how to perfom, and how to record.
Songwriting will be the next challenge for me. And it might be unreachable for me.... :o

I will try to put the new version in this thread as soon as possible, to improve it. Hope to hear from you again.

@Aaron : I used Steinbergs GROOVE AGENT Plugin. Its amazing easy to use. Its got 50 ready to use rhthms and fills and different complexity. And even could be played live with my edrum-set per midi.
