Converting 96Khz/24-bit to 44.1khz/16-bit

what do you mean 48k for post? post-production? like?

any good hardware/software solutions to downsampling?
 
Wavelab 4.0 is supposed to be well regarded for mastering and downsampling/dithering.
 
Charger, that's great and clear info. I just to work and mix in the digital domain and never had to worry about the different samplerates etc. Now I'm back to analogue, and was actually wondering if recording at higher samplerate would pay off. I'm not talking about the multitrack recordings, but about the 2 track digital before mastering. Will try the 24/44.1 thing
 
downside:

what do you use to re-sample to 16/44.1 for the final mix-down?
