crankyelbow: "How do I clean up my low end?"

everyone with experience: "You really, really need to treat your room."

crankyelbow: "Cool, I'm going to totally ignore your advice and instead build a car subwoofer, which is nowhere near flat or accurate by any stretch of the imagination."

everyone with experience: "...wtf?"

What MOST seem to be oblivious to, is sound control doesnt wear out and it makes the 'other' investments so much better. Why would I want to spend a couple grand on an ultra-sensitive mic thats going to pick up the ants having sex over in the corner if it isnt going to sound any better than the weakest point in the chain.....In this case, the room?? It doesnt make economical sense as well as having the tiring task of work-arounds for every track that goes down.

"So, how do the real Pro's do it??" They build the room first.

I've had today free so I've gone about trying to discover the best ways to tone down the high end on a DI guitar part. I've found this to be much more of a problem with DI guitar than a miced speaker, the bass just seems to get completely out of control. It would be nice to start off with a DI box that has a high pass on it but I don't have one.
The options I've been trying are.
1.Graphic EQ cut
2. High pass.
3. Low Shelf filter.
4. A plugin I have that's just called "bass reduction".
5. Compressor.
6. Tone control and pickup choice on the guitar.
One of the problems I had for about an hour on one high pass plugin was that I thought I was reducing low end pass the cutoff point, when somehow it was set to increase the low end. I have no idea why they would even allow it to do this, the bass increase sounding absolutely horrible. One of the worst sounding guitar sounds I've ever heard.

Ice cream tastes better in the summertime. But it does make it hard to control the low end, if ya know what I'm sayin! :)

Liquid rave type gloves and lots of psychoactive chemicals and really annoying beats combined with dehydration and the need to dance all night and sleep all day and who cares what tomorrow does and screw the government and prescription drugs are mind control and "I will kill you!" Sorry guys. This is my 17 year old's beliefs and I just needed to vent.

He thinks Lava Lamps are stupid. For this alone I worry about he future of the world controlled by his generation. :/ Maybe shrooms were just better in my youth?

White slang for Psilocybin mushrooms. Magic mushrooms. Psychoactive mushrooms.

Or were you being facetious? LOL!
