Can someone explain to me what this is? I was under the assumption it took the shape of a mixing desk and let you control sequencer parameters, volume increases etc etc. If this is so, are there specific control surfaces for specific sequencers?

Not really. Mackie make control surfaces that should work pretty well with their s/w, but others like Behringer are totally generic and should work with everything

Digidesigns is proprietory I belive, Tascam has a line of them that work with everything, M-audio has one, behringer has one, Mackeie has one well you get the picture.

Oh right and they just let you control software mixing externally?

Haha wow! Why such a discrepancy? I really need one to adjust levels, and maybe remote-activate recording.

If you can get hold of a Tascam US2400 from ebay i would reccommend it. Tascam discontinued it due to the lead content of the solder after some new law was passed or something. I have one and I love it. And I would defintely at least try to get something with motorised faders. To be honest, after using them, I don't understand how it would work without them.

Yeah, the EU torched a lot of great gear with that lead law. Some good stuff got discontinued.

Hiya...

Have a look at the Presonus Faderport.
It's a single port controller with a whole bunch of features... I bought one and made life so much easier...
Worth a look...

Cheers,
Scoop.

Using the Mackie MCU with SONAR here. Very happy camper. Asside from the usual touch sensitive faders, it lets you control other things like EQ, plugins, the transport controls, jog/shuttle wheel and the foot switch controls are great for when you're working by yourself.

Do your homework. What works for one may not work for you. Research compatability and try them out if you can but that might be tougher to do.

Alot of great SLR lenses got whacked as well. I believe Canon had a 200mm f/1.8 that was a great lens. I'm a Pentax user, and I believe some Pentax lenses were victims as well.

Stupid lead, as long as you aren't licking the thing, it should be fine, right? :D
