I've been having this problem for a few months now and just can't seem to figure it out. From my mixers monitor outs, I use two 1/4" to rca connectors and connect those to an rca connector (red and black, left and right) to a 100 watt stereo receiver (I think its a Techniques brand or something of that name) 4 to 8 ohms.
I hook the other ends of the rca connectors into the auxillary on the stereo receiver. I use tannoy reveals as the monitors and hook those up to the receiver as well.
I like the sound I am getting and it works out good, except every now and then I lose the left speaker. So I have to turn down the amplifier and disconnect the two 1/4" connectors coming out of my mixers monitor outs and put them back in again. Then it will usually work again. I thought, OK its the rca cords, but when I jiggle the connections, it never seems to correct the problem. I always have to take them out of the mixer.
I have tried new 1/4" to rca connectors and also tried a new rca cord (this could be the problem since its the cheap $4.00 kind).
If you do think it might be the rca cord, are there any brands that you might recommend? I just want to see if anyone had any suggestions of what the problem could be before I buy my next rca cord, or 1/4" to rca connectors.
Thanks

You may want to break open that reciever and check the solder joints on the rca connectors. Home stereo equipment is not really designed to have stuff plug in and out very often on those jacks, so by doing so, you may actually have a hairline fracture in the solder joint. By pulling out the cable, you are in effect just wiggling the jack to a place where it will work.

The fix is simple. Warm up your trusty soldering iron, find where the rca jacks mount on the reciever and just heat up the solder again untill it is liquid and take the iron off. Presto!!! You have a new, and fixed solder joint for the rca jacks.

Actually Ed I'm pulling out the 1/4" to rca(female) connectors from the mixers monitor outs everytime it does this. I wonder if I should bring the mixer back in to the place that sold it to me a few months ago. It does kind of make sense that it could be the mixers monitor jacks from your explaination. hmmmmm.... I think I will do that. Thanks Ed
