control panel settings for SB Live! Value???

Im currently running ntrack and i want to be able to record new tracks from my guitar (using a mic) while listening to the rhythm track, without recording the original rhythm track on to the new track.

I have a clue this may have something to do with my control panel settings for my soundcard.

Does anyone know what my audio recording and playback settings should be to allow me to do this?

Any constructive help will restore my faith in human kind.

Have you tried this and it didn't work already? Is your soundcard full duplex? Probably is, unless it's quite old, or very cheap. It will have to be full duplex for you to playback and record at the same time. When you go in the Multimedia control panel what's listed as the devices for playback and recording? That's the place in Win9x where you determine what soundcard to use for each of those. It could also have something to do with the settings in n-track. I don't use it, so I'll leave that to someone that does.

Give some more info, like what soundcard, what's happening when you try this (just doesn't work, error messages, etc), and what those devices in the multimedia control panel say and I'm sure you'll get some help.

Hi Lupi,

When you have the track ready to record, make sure the "record source" is set to "line in" (unless you are using the "mic input" on the sound card, which I would recommend against). If you have it set to record "What you hear" it will record everything, inclouding the track you are monitoring.

Hope that helps.

thanks for the input guys,

i managed to work it out myself last nite.

I figured out how to use the creative mixer for record control.

sorry about the cross post - i was just taking Carter's advice in the other forum (didn't think anyone'd notice)
