Control|24 and ProTools LE

Am I reading that an M-Box2 will work with this?!?!? And that the inputs would be availiable (not just the controller)?

lol, yes the Control 24 can be used with the mbox. However you will not be able to add extra inputs to your LE system, if that's what you're asking. The Control 24 is just a control surface that happens to have built in pres on it for connecting to your interfaces. Know though, no audio actually passes through the individual channels. Signal comes in and then straight out of the pres at line level, and the unit works as a monitoring control.
You still need a device that has DB24 connections on it in order to utilize the analog audio pathway.
 
Hey Benny.. Thanks for answering so many of my questions... I hope to join that PT forum, when I have a few minutes to get to it...

And yes.. I was hoping for addition I/O.. oh well..

My master plan (one of many.. lol), was to use a Digi 002R with it.. And then, as our firm grew, we could still use it for HD....

you can use it with the 002r, but only as a control surface (unless you want wire up some DB24 connectors to have a 1/4" fan out on one end of it or get something like this...then you can also use the Focusrite pres it has, but you won't gain any more inputs to Pro Tools). It is a cool unit though for a smaller professional studio...of course I'd prefer to go with something like the Pro Control or Icon though ;)

Cool... Yeah.. Now that I'm more in the know, I'm thinking it wouldn't be smart for us to get the c24....

And the ProControl isn't LE compatible .. Or maybe it is, but in control mode, just like the c24?

That is correct. It is not.
yeahm I wouldn't bother with the Control 24 unless you get a killer deal on one. If you're going to spend that much on a control surface, I'd worry about a different interface/software setup first (ie. HD). A control surface is nice, but when you get down to it it's just an over glorified mouse.

Okay... That's what I'm gonna do...

Final decision (for anyone reading this a year from now-like i'm reading old threads)....

I WILL BE BUYING A DIGI 002, with faders... If I wanna move to HD, I'll jump in headfirst and put this stuff in a another room....

lol.. unless I get a killer deal on something used at the store...

quick US2400 questions... Would I have to use the Digi's midi to route it?.. Or could I get a dedicated usb midi interface? We're gonna have a midi superhighway, compare to what I'm working with in my private studio... And scribble script.. That means I can write on the thing "temporarily", right?
 
Solves that problem (we're PC at the moment):

"Connection is easy via the supplied USB cable. For PC users, the system will recognize the 2400, install its own device driver, and tell you it’s ready to use. Mac people such as myself have to simply open the Audio/Midi Setup (Applications/Utilities) to confirm that the unit is hooked up as a 4-port MIDI device. It’s honestly that simple. No installation software is included, as none is "
 
Third party MIDI via USB is really the only thing you can plug into your computer and get Pro Tools to see bypassing the Digi hardware. The Tascam works flawlessly for me...but it took a little tinkering with to setup with the computer (it was being weird when trying to update the firmware).
scribble strip just means something that is able to display the track names. On analog mixers this was just a space below or above the faders that you could place tape across the width of the mixer and write on it by hand. Now a lot of control surfaces have LCD displaces that show this instead (which is nice if you are banking faders...it just changes with you). The US2400 doesn't have a scribble strip, unfortunately.

It's not a bad idea to start out with LE and then jump into HD if you get the money. You can get an LE setup going for a couple grand then when you move to HD, put it off in another room and charge a reduced rate for basic mixing/editing for your clients.

It's not. I don't even bother with it. It doesn't show me anything different than Pro Tools does. Below is a quick screen shot of it. They don't have track numbers next to the names, I can barely read the font, they don't change colors or highlight when you select the channels, and you have to remember to start the SoftLCD before you start program otherwise it won't recognize it. The program runs in the background (and in your taskbar if you're running windows) and just takes up memory.
You're better off just looking at Pro Tools to see which track is selected or getting some console tape and writing on that.

I suspected this was the case....

I took a nap.. haha... I have to admit after officially sleeping on it.. If we can find one of these today, at a reasonable price, and a regular 002.. I'll test the action of the two.. It seems that Tascam has taken the lead...

Any idea what a reasonable price might be new and used?
 
well, I got mine for around 600. Unfortunately Tascam is starting to phase the US-2400 out....there are rumors of a new control surface coming soon. A lot of the online stores don't have them in stock anymore but your local Guitar Center might be able to order it for you. I just happened to get mine when a lot of stores where liquidating the units for half the normal selling price (just a few months ago they were going for $1600). So anything less than that for new should be good. Keep watching Ebay. I bought mine off of there from the seller Musicians Advocate. He was offering some good deals on these.
