Nice one Chris! Vocals really sound great over here...and that snare:D , hey I like it! Good one bud.

Ya this kick sounds pretty damn good. Snare is a little gentler on the ears. I'd like to hear a better defined bass line. Even on my monitors the bass is too round to me, maybe a boost in the 500Hz region? Other that is a great tune, and improvement over version 1. Vocals sound fantastic...especially around 2:35 onward.
Again, my favorite Chris Harris tune!

........well look who finally showed up:D .....sorry man, Ive been very busy picking my ass, .....and ...well, you know how involved that can get. :D

First of all, GREAT tune!! Genre-wise, .....Yeah, i would probably consider it a part of the "new country" generation. That's a good thing though, because you do it very well (....so dont flame me man):)
This is my "2nd" most-favoritist song from you...... "Every Chance I get" gets played at my house alot!!!, and until radio burns it out, ......it will continue to do so.
The hiss around the acoustics kinda bugged me a touch at the beginning. Im listening on headphones for whatever thats worth. After my ears get used to it it disappears . If the hiss is something picked up during tracking that can no longer be dealt with, Im sorry for bringing it up, 'cause its really not helpful. If it can be cleaned up w/ the fx and stuff used during the mix, then maybe its helpful. Im rambling......
Is this the short scale bass? I know what im getting you for Christmas.............:D (you wish).:D
Beautiful Song bro!!!

G w/ 5 .......cause my homie knows how to write a tune!!!

Hey Chris, Just wanted to say hi, good song man. I'd say Pop\Rock would be O.K. for this. Talk to ya.

HEY ASSHOLES!!

Thanks for the help with this one. I think I'm gonna' take a break until I get some tracks from Chessrock, but I needed to burn part of the Pregame time replying to some comments.

Flash - Thanks for stopping by.

Guernica - Hey man. The "bass" is actually one of my 6 String Acoustic gits, so it's definitely a short neck....LOL. I think Chessrock is coming up with something better. This got thrown together really fast to check out some new stuff, but I wanna' keep it now. OH, AND FOR THE LAST TIME, THAT HISS THAT YOU HEAR IS NOT HISS, IT JUST SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE HISS...LOL ... (here's the TMI portion of my response to you: there's a song by 7 Mary 3 called "Lucky," and they use a big plate reverb on the acoustic that I've grown to love, but I remember that the first time I heard it, I thought it was hiss; plus, I didn't calculate the reverb very accurately...when the git is solo'd, you can tell it's reverb, but as is...I agree...just sounds like hiss).

Sluice - Your posts in this thread made me feel really good; and, as always, your mix comments helped. But mostly, I just liked the stuff you said. :D :D Thanks, man.

David - I hate drums...LOL. Thanks for checking out, my little green friend. :D

Dobro - I appreciate your taking the time to check this out. As much BS as I spout in the CoolEdit forum, I think it's healthy to let folks know that I don't actually have a clue what I'm doing. :D Oh, and the bass and drums sound PERFECT in the .wav file...it's just that CEP encoder that screwed them up, LOL. :D :D

stratomaster - There's a little music store here that I've frequented for years, and I have no idea how the owner stays in business, but he's a really cool guy, and he let me demo a Studio Projects C-1 for a couple of weeks... Now I think I'm actually gonna' have to buy the lopsided clunker...I don't even have a proper mic clip for it right now....using duct tape, LOL. yeah, with the duct tape, it looks like a regular piece of my "studio." :D

powderfinger - thanks for listening again. I like that kick.

mixmkr - thanks for taking the time. The timing issues were accentuated by the backwards way I did this. It all sounded okay before I added drums...LOL. Anyway, I hope it's better than it was, and I think it's gonna' get better in the near future. (GO CHESSROCK!!)

erichenryus - You're right about me squeezing the crap out of the vocals...I always do that. I cannot mix any other way, and I can barely mix THIS way. :D :D The mic was a studio projects C-1, which is technically not a dynamic...LOL. But I agree that it kinda' sounds like that by the time I get done with it. Thanks for checking it out, and thanks for the favorable comparison....Lyle Lovett's too talented for me to feel comfortable with the comparison, though. The singer in my band does Lyle's taxes and goes deer hunting with him every year south of Houston, so maybe I'll slip him a CD. :D :D Take care.

Jagular - Hey man...I hope you stick around. We seem to think kinda' similarly about music. I love a bunch of Canadian "Country" bands, myself, and the comparison is one that makes me grin. Check out Cross Canadian Ragweed if you like any of that stuff...and DEFINITELY check out Chris Knight (from Kentucky)...I just think he's a model songwriter. Anyway, I'm looking forward to more from you.

AIA2j Hey Al: Okay, brought the bass up...but I think having it replaced entirely is the key. :D Thanks for the help.

bobbo - Man, Camper Van Beethoven...there's a name I haven't heard in about a decade. :D Thanks for the input and for listening.

MyDyingBride - Nice username, btw. I'm having a hard time mixing the acoustics on this one. Part of the problem, I think, is that there's so much high end in the acoustics that they start walking on the hat and ride more than they compete with the vocal...so it creates weirdish timing issues. Anyway, I appreciate the listen, and I hope it gets better with some of Chessrock's contributions.

Thanks again, all. This is the most helpful place on the internet, and I think you all just freakin' rock.

Nice tune mate, sounds like country music :p hehe
I'm not too keen on that snare tho, kinda doesn't sound like it's part of the kit to me. Love the vox at about 2:30 thats great 2:46 sounds like a Beatles type vocal line, love it.
Nice geetar sounds and playing too. kick (s) sound cool too. Toms could come up a fraction I reckon and the hat/ride in places too perhaps.

Actually while i've been typing this that snare's grown on me a bit.

I like.

Nice.

Ian.........

Chris - when I signed up yeah, i tried Wes1 - 479 and they were all taken up. Heh, actually I'm not sure *where* 480 came from, it was just a number I picked out of the blue. Too late to change now, or I would have to reset my precious post count...it's wes480 for the long haul bi0tch.

Mixes are sounding better and better on this tune.

good tune man... and your over-all quality is getting better... so you don't have to go killin' yerself... ;) :D

and believe it or not, the snare didn't annoy the hell oat of me. :p It's got that "I got my mind set on you" quality to it. And I don't think this sounds too "country" either.. it's got a nice middle-of-the-road sound to it. Now all you gotta do is get right up on that C-1 and get some proximity effect goin' on... :p

(on a side note... hey powderfinger... I've had "Alright With Me" in my HomeRec playlist for so long, that I totally forgot who recorded it... :D thanks for reminding me... really good song, man.. and I dig the random @ss drum hits too... )

Well, right off, I can hear your new mix benefits from new gear and some new ideas. It sounds airy and so much less harsh than your past stuff. Personally, I thought the drums sounded great. The acoustics sound great too.

On my monitors, the bass guitar sounds really good, but its too loud. Its fighting with the vocal rather than driving the tune subliminally, if that makes any sense. I think its just got a boost in the low mids someplace. I kept wanting to back it off so I could concentrate on the song.

Overall, though, things sound very improved. More depth and space, clarity and presence without edginess. Very noticable improvements happening.

Now quit it! Or I'll start hating you for sounding so good while my shit keeps slipping!

I haven't read the other posts yet so I may repeat stuff but....
It sounds like Jackson Browne to me. It's a very cool energetic tune and I like it a lot. The mix seems to heavy in the 2k region which makes it a little 'harsh' sounding ( to me and on my 'puter speakers) but the tune and performance are very nice. I really don't see how you turn out so many cool songs. BTW, I think I'm goona do one of yours for the Homerec challenge and it'll be one close to your heart so PM me and let me know if that's allright.

Very good tune.......
