I mentioned in the mixing catagory about not getting enough bass sound from my monitors and they suggested my getting a subwoofer.

Currently, I have active monitors only. Do they make active subwoofers? And how would I connect them since my left out goes to my one monitor and the right out goes to the other monitor?

You send a mono mix of both channels with the top end lopped off by EQ to an amp connected to the sub woofer driver.

Alot of the Event designs seem to have some of this in mind.

The Mackie sub is powered, isn't it? One handy thing, if you have a 3 speaker Mackie set, the 2 mains have a built-in cutoff so you don't need to do anything fancy to get the 3 speakers working nicely together.

Yes you can get active subs.
Most have crossovers built in so you go from your source to the sub's inputs, then you connect the sub's outputs to you monitors. Most subs will let you sellect the crossover frequency so you can match them with your monitors.
