I have a Behringer 2004A and a Terratec EWS88/MT. Im looking for advise on how to get each channel from the mixer to the terratec. There are inserts on the back of the mixer from each channel. Also, on top of the mixer, I have my XLR inputs with 1/4" line inputs below them. If I plug a mic into the mixer on channel 1, I have noticed that I can run a cable from the line input of channel 1 to channel 1 on the sound card and that works. I can also use the insert jack on the back of the mixer. The only problem is that when I use the insert, I can no longer get channel 1 in my main mix for monitoring.

I know a little about insert jacks as far as the send and return goes. would the proper way to set this up be to use the inserts and have the send go to my sound card input and the return to the sound card output? Would this give me my sound back to the mixer for monitoring? Or should I just continue using the line input below the XLR jack? Is there a stronger signal from the insert or would it be the same from either?

any advice???

Thanks man. That works great!!! The gain controls on the mixer control the level of the mic to the sound card. I am also able to adjust the gain in the Terratec software but this doesn't affect the sound in my monitors. In your opinion, should I set the software gain's to a decent level and then use the mixers controls to fine tune so that I'm able to hear the mix that is actually being recorded?
