Yeah.
The 424mkII is a self-contained recorder/mixer (Portastudio) that doesn't need a lot in the way of accessories. Unless you need phantom-power, the UB mixer isn't necessary. The 424mkII accepts XLR mics (dynamic) and 1/4" mic/line level sources. It's a pretty complete unit, if I may say so.
If you mix & record on the 424mkII, you may then do your final mixdowns to the computer, & burn cd's of your stereo mixes there. It will require an RCA-to-1/8"-stereo Y-cable adapter,... a common & inexpensive item. You'll also need a 'puter with recording software that records 16-bit/44.1 kHz/stereo WAV files and other software that burns "normal" audio cd's from stereo WAV files. All in all, it's pretty simple.
Your 'puter won't usually do a 'proper' or good job as "monitor". You'll need a monitor system that consists of an amp & speakers, or just self-powered speakers. Most people just starting out use their standard hifi stereo system as monitor,... or worst case,... a boombox will do in a pinch. I guess a 'puter with soundcard & speakers would work for "monitor", but it's clearly not my first choice.
There's not much else to say,... that I can remember at this time, although I'm bound to remember a few more tips later. Heh.
For some good examples of recordings done on the 424mkII, pls check my "homepage" linked off my user name. There are many, many examples of recordings done on this very same machine,... the 424mkII. (all covers). The most standout examples of hifi off the 424mkII would probably be "Commando", "Loudmouth", "Havana Affair", "Chain Saw", "I Don't Wanna Walk Around with You", and "Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World",... (all Ramones covers!) See recording details beneath each title.
There are other good cuts there, too, off several different formats, if you have the time to listen.
Thanx & good luck!!
