Has anyone here ever had problems with buying condensors in this way? Like, for example, a broken mic. Or something.

Every thing is shipped from somwhere to the store or your house!

Unless you live in the factory, your instruments were thrown around in a plane or truck somewhere!:)

As long as the package was not damaged (Crushed, spindled, mutilated) it will be fine...

BTW always inspect the package before signing to receive it!

Dom:rolleyes:

Exactly

Dom is right.
Most every store gets their stuff the same way! At least you will be more careful in checking things out before signing for it,
PLUS you wont be playing football with it in the warehouse.!

I have personally ordered numerous $200-$600 mics this way and have never had any problems. Most online stores are really good about making good when you have to return as well, otherwise they would be out of buisness.

This reminds me of when I received my Soundelux U97. Mercenary Audio had just sold their last one and it was discontinued, so I had to go "somewhere else" I ordered on a Monday or Tuesday, and the item was left at my doorstep that Friday by FedEx by the time the dealer sent me the tracking number. It came in a beatup box, in the box was just the mic box (with the mic), minimal padding, and (get this!) a piece of a potato chip bag...At least it wasn't the whole greasy bag!!! The mic was fine, no complaints, but the other strange thing was the return address was a Guitar Center in the same vicinity as the company I ordered it from. Shipping was $17 if I remember correctly. Don't think I'll order from them again (other things went weird with them when I tried ordering the donut shockmount)

BTW- Mercenary Audio has been great with shipping stuff. They always make you sign for it and are really good with getting you a tracking number so you can be home to sign. They've shipped me RNCs, a Neumann KM184, and a Great River MP2.

Okay. That's more or less reassuring (a piece of a potato crisp packet?). Thanks chaps.

Mailorder always leaves out the try before you buy.. Which is a must for me..

That's true. But where I live the only mics I can try before I buy are the AKG D112, C1000S and C3000B, the Shure SM57 and 58, and the Rode NT1 and NT3.

living in south america, i always have to mail order everything. i never had a problem. i've used everything from ups to air mail, and none of my packages was lost or broken.
i got a handful of mics this way.
i also got guitars, amps, soundcards, you name it. i buy very little stuff locally.
the last amp i bought was sent to me with no padding at all. just the amp in its original box. and it works fine.

I've bought lots of stuuf through mail order, never once have I had a problem.
I usually give my work address as the delivery address, that way I know someone will be there to sign for it and it won't be left on a doorstep somewhere.

My MXL 603's arrived just fine last Christmas. But last fall I ordered a CAD M37 that arrived with the mic capsule ratteling around inside the housing. There was no apparent damage to the shipping package, but my heart sank when I heard that clanking sound coming out of my very first condensor mic. Fortunately, 8th st. was very prompt about replacing it.
