Hey Guys , Im New Here and i have very LOW experience and i need some help.

I currently record music (rap , maybe sometimes a lil singing ) with a samson c01u USB condensor...its alright , but i want better quality...

Im looking to get an Audio-Technica AT2035 But I Have No Idea What Audio Interface To Buy ?

My Budget Is About $300 Us dollars.

please help out - thanks :)

Well, what software do you want to use? If you would like to work with Protools, I like the MBox 2 Mini for you.

well i use adobe audition ...might move to pro tools...but im most likely gonna stick to adobe audition for a WHILE...would it be good for that too ?

Yeah, they are supposed to be compatible, but if you decide to get an mbox I would just put the time in to learn protools.

Welcome to HR. Before we load you up with suggestions, can you help us out by telling us a few things:

What do you want to do, music-wise? Do you want to start a business and learn to record professionally, or do you want to record some stuff for you and your freinds to listen to? Somewhere in between?

What is your room like? Dimensions and acoustic treatment?

What other gear do you use?

What is your computer like?

thanks :)
well i just want to make music...maybe even use it to send demos...
i have no idea about my room but my mic is in my closet and i will be getting soundproof foam covering the wall....

i use no gear really besdies the mic and my laptop...
i use a laptop That has 4 usb ports and i think it has a firewire port too ( hp dv6 series , 3gb ram . intel dual core II 2.8ghz CPU, amd turion HD 4530 graphics card...and thats about all i know atm ) its an entertainment laptop :)

I really think the lexicon audio interface (usb) And the AT2035 mic would be a good combo...what do you guys think ?

thanks :)

I recommend you spend a week or so browsing this forum and the Studio Construction forum. You need to know more before you make any decisions. We can make recommendations, but we don't know what is going to work for you.

Recording in your closet is ill-advised. Using foam is even worse.

Try recording in the largest space you can. If your room sounds terrible, consider getting a quality dynamic such as an EV RE-20 or a Shure SM-7. Make sure the preamp you get can provide enough gain.

haha come on guys please dont embarrass me (: ...ok well then no foam...i like my closet :) but yes my room sounds great for recording except there is nowhere to sound proof...but umm what is that stand used that half-circulates the mic where people can sing into its like a sound proof stand ? ...i could consider that...but umm i use a samson c01u USB like i mentioned...i want to get a mic that sounds clearer so the combination i gave should do the job right ?

First of all, nobody's trying to embarrass you. But, like Armistice said, many of us are trying to figure out where all this "recording in a closet" non-sense came from. It's possibly the worst place to record anything.

Second of all, get "sound-proofing" out of your vocabulary. You don't need sound-proofing and it would cost you 1000's of dollars if you did. Just record in the bst sounding room to record in, which is definitely NOT going to be your closet.

haha..rami's right. no ones having a go.
just lately it seems like having a soundproofed closest is as essential as owning a microphone to most of the newcomers to the board.

i'm glad i never had the money, space or time to deal with proper acoustic room treatment, cos before i joined this board, i DEFINITELY would have done it all wrong!

if the room sounds great to record in, you probably don't need to treat it, and if there's no interference from outside sounds (traffic etc), then you don't need to proof it.

lol well im sorry if i dont know anything but when i said " dont embarrass me " that was a joke...so yeah...anywaayyysss haha umm well ok ill record i my room...but the MOST important thing to me is....WHAT MICROPHONE should i get guys ? and what interface ??? cause i wanna upgrade from a samason c01u USB to a AT2035 with the lexicon usb mixer...what do u guys think ? i just rap and i like to have it sound very good since im a noob and i cant mix well
