If your mixer does not have phantom power you need to buy a phantom power supply for the mic. Here is one I found for $49.99 with a quick search on:
www.musiciansfriend.com

and the link to the manufacturer:

I have no idea how good or reliable these are, Shure also makes a few models, undoubtedly more expensive though.

Some condensors will take a battery - only one I can think of is the AKG C1000S which can use a 9V internal battery or phantom power.

I think I remember reading a thread on this topic here before but I wasn't able to find the link, so... sorry for any repetition.

BUT, what happens if I want to buy a condenser mic but my mixer doesn't have phantom power? What do I need to do? How much will it cost?

Thanks

The second option is to by a decent preamp that has a phantom power source. It's a bit more expensive, but you get a preamp out of it as well. Again, the ART Dual MP seems to be well loved round here.

Wow, that's more expensive than one would think.

Thanks.

Does anyone know if the ART Tube MP (not the Dual) has a phantom power supply?

CAD makes several mics that use a rechargeable internal power supply. They are supposed to be nice mics. Check Musician's Friend (web address above).

Peace, Jim

the art tube mp has phantom power.. and most users swear by it , so if your spending 50 bucks on a phantom power source anyway might as well spend the extra 50 bucks on the art tube mp..

but , what condenser mic are you using? the art tube mp only makes a big difference if your using a better quality condenser..

Heh, I don't actually own a condenser yet. I was just curious in case I was ever to buy one.
