I was just given an Audio Technica 853 mic with the connector chopped off. The cable coming out of the mic has 2 red wires, 2 yellow wires, and a shield. Anyone got any clues how to put an XLR connector on this thing?

I don't think it's any kind of great mic, but since I got it for free, I kind of like to try it out.

Thanks for any and all replies.

I bet the techs at Audio Techinica would be happy to help you out and it would probably be the most reliable answer.

You don't specify exactly which model, but here's the link to Audio Technica's list on their web-site. The specs are available as .PDF documents, which are viewable with a browser. I had a quick look, and one of the spec sheets has a pic. Red/Red is "audio +", and Yel/Yel is "audio -" , and shield is shield. So all you need now is to know how to connect them to and XLR (shield to pin 1; balanced sig and phantom power to 2 and 3). There - that should do the trick.

That will be $150.00

Have a nice day - ;)

Will,

Thanks a million for doing the "legwork" for me. Actually, I checked that website earlier, but never found the page with the wiring diagram.

I e-mailed their tech support and they replied very promptly that they would be happy to repair it for me for 40 bucks plus shipping.
(thats cheaper than Will by the way ;) ).

So thanks once again to the members of HR.com, this place is a goldmine of info.

Incidentaly, that sounds like good cable that came with it. Sounds like quad twisted pair.
