Hi guys.
Tonight im buying a JLM Baby animal preamplifier with 1 nev-ish channel and 1 api-ish channel. I figure im going to buy a new mic or 2 to go with it but I dont know weather to buy a high end dynamic or a decent condencer. I currently record in a bedroom...not great but its what i have till i get my own place. I have diy base traps in the corners, to the side of me and behind me. I plan to put a further 2 on the roof. They are 1 slab thick, they help somewhat, i have the materials to make the rest for this but i just havnt got around to it.
I have the options of:
1, Buying the JLM version of the u87. Though not the most popular of mics, the lead singer of wolf mother (and someothers which i cant remember) prefer this mic to the u87.Joe (owner of JLM) says his version has a little less low end. He said the only real difference is the capsule (de didnt use an expencive one in the design.)
I was thinking i could buy 2 of these, replace the capsule with one of my peluso ones and keep one stock.
2, look at buying an sm7 or re-20 . I was leaning towards an re-20 untill i read that people only use it on a special vocal type. Unfortunatly i dont know what that is. otherwise i guess id have to go with an sm7
3 buy one of each.. but thats is probably out of my price range for the moment.
Im unsure my self on what to buy and am looking to get some oppinoins. so feel perfectly free to make some
I was also looking for some tracks/albums or samples of hiphop vocals that have used an sm7 or re-20 just to get an idea, as i am unsure if they are what i want.
