Well... Let me just start off by saying...
I have become accustomed to 32 track digital computer based studio with soundproof booth.
3 key's the least expensive of which I believe was Alesis qs8... Numerous sound modules DM5.. Proteus.. etc... Compressors.. hard drive recording.. adat .. dat.. I believe Elogic software... Now let's consider that I could barely afford to buy time to do tracks yet alone...work into the wee hours of the night... So I've been thinking!! Although, I produced the music and recorded the vocals in the studio.. Mainly the work was done by the engineers.. (though I had a little work with the seqeuncing programs on the computer.. mostly record, play, stop, rewind, mute track(for breakdowns), etc... Let's just say the hook was great.. So I've been debating.. I love my music and I want to do it non stop... I've been destroying the net..reading about everything : midi.. what computers.. sound cards.. mixing..etc....So I picked a name for this forem readytodothis, because I am... my questions? I'll narrow them down to sound cards and computers for now...
forget about cost... but consider that I want an affordable studio (without defining affordable
Let's say I want to use either my pentium III or celeron one at 550 and another at 500 respectively.. both with 128mb sdram.. a 20 gigabyte drive 7200rpm ..
One with 128k level 2 cach the celeron..
the other (p3) with 512k pipeline (I've read but am not sure I believe that one form is better than the other as far as studio recording, but i'm not sure.) both were originally home/office, out of the pc's but I have the ability to alter them, and I don't want to buy a new.. I also really would like to only ahve to install at the most another hard drive and a good sound card...or dual soundcards as the case may be...but if I am leaving something out please let me know.. I guess I should say I am looking at 24 track mixer I would like to record using multiple midi hook ups.. I believe that midi interfaces help that out.. but these sound cards with multiple outs and ins are they midi( LAyla and delta 1010) does getting one of these mean I can by pass interfaces... I would like digital processing, but I'm not sure exactly the routing of the music/vocals.. mixer to computer .. sequencer(software), mixer, computer... do I get digital processors for my studio, or get a sound card with digital outs... At that point.. I'm lost.. I think my problem is that I understand midi.. but not track/patchbay hook, nor do I fully understand the computers integration into multiple tracks studio (except for the software sequencers and recording vocals to the hard drive) I guess I need to know alot .. I have a lot of mountains the only problem is the vallies in between.. For thos who will attempt to help and require a price range.. Let me say if the Layla ar delta will enable me to bypass whole bunch of midiman interfaces in order to record a lot of tracks... then I would buy it... But I am walking in a pit with a small flash light so please help!! Thank you....
Was that too long.. I know you guys like detail..
