Give the guy a break, you dont need to be making any assumptions, when I bought my first piece of software in 1988 I didnt know how to use it! Jerzey can you give us a little more info on your computer, soundcard and any other devices you have, and then we can help you out.
OK, Assuming he did pay for it, chances are
1)He's just starting out
2)He has a limited budget, say $1000
3)He just blew 1/2 his budget on Software
If he is new, you'd think he'd do some research before buying ANYTHING, yet alone something which eats up 1/2 his budget. If he'd do his research first, he could have easily purchased something like N-Track, or even use Audacity, and still have most of his budget left over for "important" things like mics/cables/soundcard/etc...
So, IF he did purchase Sonar, I can only guess that
1)He has a HUGE budget OR
2)He jumped into this a little too quickly
We need details before we can help you dude!

Depends on how far you want to go with it. You might try E-mailing Cakewalk to see what they recommend. I'm sure they have a really good customer support center.
