could someone please inform me on the differences between motherboards. I am trying to create a pc from scratch and I would like to make the most informed purchases possible. I know nothing about motherboards. Currently I am looking at the specs on computers made by different companies for recording and looking for the motherboards that they use but I would like some input from different musicians on what types I should look into or what sites I should check that breaks down what the different specs on motherboards are and what they mean.

This is a whole science in itself... I hope you know a lot about PC's. :)

Personally I gave up the "building your own PC"-business a couple of years ago, since it simply doesn't save any money anymore. And also things move so fast that I now keep a PC for a couple of years, and when it gets to slow, ALL of the parts need upgrading, so I'd have to build a new PC from scratch. Sure, you can still svae money if you aren't gonna build a top-notch PC and have loads of old parts already, but if you buy it new, it probably is just gonna be a lot of hassle, IMO. since you are going to use it for music judging from your other posts, I would recommend you to go with your other idea, ie buying it from a company that configures PC's specifically for music use, unless these for some reason are excessevely expensive...

Search for music shops that sell PC's. There should be hundreds of the all over the US. I did a search on Google, and found these:

I have NO idea if they are any good though...
