Computer mics, and others using TRS

I bought some 1/4 adapters for two TRS mics, and I had a lot of problems getting them to record anything. Normally they work decently, without the adapters, but as soon as I put on the adapters and ran them into my mixer I could get hardly anything.

The other issues I have are the fact that nothing was recording especially well. I basically had to crank everything, including the main mix and eq, just to get any vocals out of my proper vocal mic.

I'm wondering what the problem might be and how I could improve the performance of my TRS mics, (because I can't afford anything better).

Other information that may apply is that the basement in which I record in is all concrete, and it has a bad problem with picking up radio, but wasn't doing it this time. The mixer was on a wobbley piece of cardboard on an air hockey table. I don't know if this is important at all, but I thought I would mention it anyways.

I would really appreciate any comments and suggestions. Thanks.

Also, I'm not sure if this is in the appropriate forum, so please feel free to redirect it if I was wrong.

What the heck is a TRS mic????? Do you mean a cheapie microphone with a 1/4" TRS plug on the end of the cable? I don't think these exist. I've seen cheap microphones with 1/4" TS plugs, but not TRS.
Some ?s to help -
What microphone? What are you plugging into (exact mixer model and input), what are you recording to?
Any decent recording microphone will have an XLR cable and be sent to an XLR input of a standalone pre-amp or mixer's microphone input. Anything less will yield less than satisfactory results, there's no free lunch here, sorry!

oh, i used to record stuff with a little electret mic, got 5 of them free , from a computer store or something, its one of those "loud" but noizy computer mics,
it had a 1/8" "stereo or trs" jack , only worked in my computer , i guess it took some voltage from the motherboard to work

thank god i stopped using those mics years ago,

but now i wonder, the wellknown sennheiser md421's , they come with a red TS cable...where do u plug that ts cable? just in the line in of your mixer?
or in an "instrument input" of a preamp ?
