Hey guys. Wondering if you could help me with this..
I've got a guitar going through my mixer (Behringer Eurorack UB802) which is connected to my computer with an RCA cable via the computers microphone jack.
There is sound from the guitar getting to the mixer but no sound getting to the computer, making me unable to record anything.
I've tried the exact same setup on my friends computer and it works fine so I think its something to do with my computer..
I've also tried using a Zoom MRS-802 which didn't work.

I'm running Vista Home Premium and have Adobe Audition 2.

Please Help

Assuming you have tried the EXACT same setup using the EXACT cables, then indeed it is probably a setting on your computer.

I have never used Vista, but with every other windows platform there is a windows sound mixer for handling the input and output volumes of the sound card. If there is a speaker in the system tray double click (or maybe right click) and expand it to show all the advanced functions.
There should be a slider for turning up the input volume, there may be even a mute button or box checked.

Wouldn't it be better to use the line input on the soundcard?

yeah the line input would be much better than the mic input

for whichever input you use though, click the volume icon on the bottom right of your screen, switch the properties to recording and make sure the volume is up on whichever input and that it's check marked.

I've switched it to the line input and now the green bar is animating when I play a not which wasn't happening before, but the sound isn't coming through my speakers and isn't recording on Audition..
I checked the Volume is up for everything when I clicked on the volume icon but it's still not working

When ever you have your line input putting out sound, it will put out sound all the time. Even if your just using windows. I recently went through some old cassette tapes and archived them on my computer using this method and a cassette player.

Check sounds in control panel. And make sure LINE IN is your recording source in your audio app. I don't remember exactly how I had it setup.

Right, in Audition I've changed the Audio Driver to "Audition Input Sound" and now I can choose Line In as the default input and it's now letting me record but the Latency is very high... I've checked the manual and it says to reduce the latency use an ASIO driver if available but when I choose the "Creative ASIO" driver in audition, it doesn't let me choose Line In for my input.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hmmm.
I don't know, I didn't experience any noticable latency issues when I tried it.
