A year ago,I was convinced I fried the bios on my Giga-byte GA7-dx mobo.It gave me the error message"Award BIOS bootblock v1.0 BIOS rom checksum error Detecting floppy drive A:Insert system disk and press enter."
I replaced the board and found that I still had problems.Turned out to be bad ram.I replaced the ram and my computers ran like a charm since.
I've picked up two old obsolete computers at lawnsales recently, hoping to collect enough parts to make a decent spare computer, and the thought came to me to try to revive this mobo.
What components have to be present when attempting to look for signs of life in my mobo?I have the identical mobo in my recording computer,so I can pull the ram, cpu, etc.but am loathe to do so,because I am so paranoid about fucking up my functional computer.
If it is my bios, would anyone recommend hotflashing them,or ordering a new chip,or should I simply throw it in the rubbish?
Any suggestions or insights appreciated.Heres a link to the threads from last year.
