computer drums

I have used a Roland 840 in the past with an old drum machine. After the purchase of a new computer I will starting using Cakewalk or whatever (recomendations are appreciated). What about beats? Does any of this new software have drum capabilities or do I need to always hook something up from an outside source?

Drums Capabilities...?

What do you mean by drums capabilities ? The meaning are vary subject to what will you do to have a drum track. Some can handle MIDI, sound fonts, Sample, Loops, record a real drums track, etc... see ? ;) It depends on what's your goal also. If you think you need the drum track as the beat keeper not to be emotionally (like some on RNB & disco tunes) then using loops would be good. But if you mean to have a feeling close to real drums, you may want editable MIDI tracks or better yet, record a real drums. Some programs (like Cakewalk, Fruityloops, Acid, etc) come with sample data bundled (MIDI, Wav or whatever) as a source to be sequenced. There would be a good starting point to build your drums track. :cool:
 
I guess I'm wondering if there is the possiblity of a "drum machine" included with the software that will take the place of my old one. From what you posted it sound like Cakewalk has some, but they may be just a good starting source.

In the past I have used a combination of live drums and digital from a 7 or 8 year old yamaha. I will continue to use the live drums but wonder if I will find something better in the software than my yamaha.
 
NYC Drumworks and Discrete Drums 24 bit CD samples of live recorded drums will do wonders if you have a software sampler.
