There's another thread quite like this going on but I didn't feel good about hijacking it....

I need a compressor for mixing. At least our drummers snare needs serious compressing, kicks too, and my bass, though I'm getting my own.

4-8 channels, not necessarily rackmounted. (nothing else is)

i think presonus has something that is like 8 channels of compression....I haven't heard it used before but I'd interested in some opinions on it.

From what i remember, the compressors are rack mountable and cost like $800 or so. Hope that helps you out

Thanks...but.. HOW THE HELL those things cost so much?!!
damn, isn't there a cheap Korean alternative? :D

8 channels of compression for $800 is expensive? It doesn't get much cheaper than that... Compared to "nice" compressors, that *IS* the cheap Korean (probably Chinese actually) alternative. Start pricing Drawmer, Focusrite, the nicer DBX units that start at around $1k per channel (and then Manley, Crane Song, GML, etc. at $2500+ per channel) and call an $800 8-channel unit "expensive..."

And when it comes down to it, don't expect really stellar sound from a $100 per channel compressor... Great for gigging and such, but if you're talking about recording, you're probably better off staying ITB with your dynamics anyway - unless you're going to go with something... a little nicer.

Yeah I know... But I've spent like 3k on gear during last year and starting to run short of liquid cash. :o

Think I'll go with those RNC:s if I can find a retailer in europe.
