Can I use a stereo (can be used as dual mono) compressor to more than two channels in a mix?

Say for instance that I want to use a compressor on two vocals and a stereo stagepiano. Can I use only one compressor unit to acomplish this in a live/rehersing situation?

Have the knowledge that you should connect a compressor in the insert jack, but that narrows my possibilities. Can I use it as a regular aux send?

Thanks for an answer!

You can use your mixer to mix the signals together (via the send levels) and send them out the aux sends. You won't have individual control over the compression on each. Since you are doing two vocals and a stereo piano, I would think that the same settings on both vocals, and other settings both channels of the piano would sound good enough, especially if it's just for live work.

Unless the signals are of equal strength, etc, I don't think that would work very well. But there's nothing to stop you from trying it. Also using a compressor through the aux sends like an effect is not the way it's usually done.

If you use the Aux send for compression be sure to max out the send pot and only track or monitor the wet signal... don't mix with the dry...

Aux rets and sends are for efx. Use channel inserts for shaping signal dynamics such as eq or compression.

You could balance the strengths with the send level on each track. I know it's not ideal, but he doesn't have enough channels of compression to use inserts for everything.

If you send a both side of the stereo piano through one side of the compressor, it will be mono. If you are trying to compress everything together, send the vocals and piano to a buss (or group channel) and insert the compressor on the buss.
Once you have mixed 2 signals together and run them through the compressor, you cannot separate them later.
