first let me start with explaining my setup.

i have the fallowing:

AKG D112 bass drum mic
Cooledit
Mackie 1642-VLZ PRO mixer

i directly plug the mixing board into my computer

i have been looking at compressors for bass drum and i wasnt sure what to get. ive been told
MDX2600 Composer Pro-XL Compressor is good but i was wondering about some other peoples inputs..

You didn't mention what soundcard you are using, If you are using soundblaster cards, do an upgrade on that rather than buying a compressor, you could use cool edit's software compressor instead. They sound better than behringer stuff.
If you have a good soundcard, you could try an Alesis or DBX compressor, they sound pretty good in their price range. Have fun!

i agree with the RNC compressor. good price, good quality, good to learn from.

The DBX-166xl includes a gate as well as a peak limiter, the RNC is just a compressor. Nonetheless, both are low-end compressors that will do a decent job.

aw man, i was just about to order that one i posted too. i heard that its good for recording bass drum which is mainly all ill use it for... you are sure its a bad idea to get it?

For the kick (and snare as well) I'd go with the DBX over the RNC.

Do you have other compressors in your rack?

i dont have any tahts why i was asking what a good one to start out with would be. thanks!

I have the DBX model mentioned above. I'd recommend it to anyone who doesnt want to spend too much. I'd definitely recommend it over the Composer pro.

But,.... it's your money bro. Good luck with the one ya get!

Take 'er easy,...
