I have a RNC. Can anybody give me suggestions as to what settings would be typical for recording vocals, bass, drums, guitar?

I would like to get a basic idea of how it works and what to expect. I have read up (somewhat, so far) how compressors work and when they are used. I just haven't had much practical experience with them.

Any info would help.

Analog recording or digital?

On vocals, start low compression, 1:2 Better to use good vocal tecnique than compression.

Guitar and bass you can go as deep as you think sounds good.

Depending on what your recording or working with say the bass guitar for example,

I will start plucking the strings pretty hard and start at the low B (5 string) and set the compressor to curve off at -2 db with a small ratio, then start working down...

i try to go slow and get a good sound with the LEAST amount of compression i can get away with... that way, you're not effecting the signal as much...

just my 2 cents..

Sometimes the point is to squish the heck out of the signal though. Compression isn't just to control dynamics, but give character and a feel... especially certain compressors that have their own sound.
