Thought I would fool around with this, maybe fun could be bad. If anyone has sugesstions chime in. I do not believe there would be problems if make up gain is set to unity (as preamp section would be passing same db signal if it weren't there) I think . My theory is that the compression applied would smooth out the dynamics a bit depending on ratio or really kill a good dynamic tone (we all love in tube amps). Just an experiment. Kinda like putting a comp on an efects send of a console instead of the pre insert point. I jsut dont want to fry anything, that's why I believe that the comps output should be unity with input and not pushing to much signal to the power section. BTW the amp is a dsl 100 (turned way down). Second I am not sure but I (once again poss. wrong) that the effects return is prior to the PI. (should be). So with that thinking would I in effect be overdriving the PI tube if more than unity? I can only imamgine waht a overdriven pi sounds like or is that a good thing?? Dunno. Please comment ( and maybe save an amp if trouble!) THnks, Be well all.

Try it and see what it sounds like. It won't hurt anything.

GGunn, the effects send level is too low to drive the input of the compressor. I adjusted send out level up and still not enough. I could use the makeup gain as a slight boost but sounded like crap. Could boost prior to comp but I will move on to more stuff. Off topic: I am having hell with my sound card. I am having driver conflicts with delta and MS Legacy drivers that for the life of my I cannot disable (legacy) PM if suggestions. Lots folks having same. Beck is pretyy trippy without the computer induced random 1/4 & 16th note triplets. LOL.
