Hey... I pretend to buy lots of gear on my birthday to build my homestudio for hip hop beats production/recording propose (only have a MG12/4 mixer atm). I've already decided in what I'm going to buy, exept on the compressor... don't know which should I buy... I've heard about the Behringer MDX2600, but don't know if it's good and don't know other compressors... please give me a hand... as the topic says.. I need the compressor for recording hip hop vocals ;)

Thanks

most people will tell you to get an RNC... dont listen to them.. yeah its a good compressor but its too wimpy for hip hop... im still trying to find a good compressor for rap myself

Yep, allready got advised to get a RNC, but I'm from Europe and its a pain in the ass to get it from the US.
What do you use for compress btw?? ah, and tell me somethn when you found that good compressor you are looking for.

right now im just using the compressor in my Cool Edit Pro... its straight, but i want a decent hardware compressor that I can use before the signal gets to my computer... whats your budget?

I'm not sure you understand how to use it. I have a couple and really don't find them wimpy at all. I think a DBX 160A or the like would suit you just fine though, or if you can get your hands on an older behringer (yup you heard me) behringer composer like a 2000 or later and throw a couple THAT vca's in it along with a toroidal transformer it sounds very nice

I'm only goin 2 buy the compressor and the rest of the gear at my birthday, and that's only in September.

I got 300€ from the xmas and I'm saving 10€ every week from the money that my dad gives to me, and in the summer vacations I will work and save a part of the money (hope I'll get a job in the grape catch or smth cuz I only got 15), so in September I will have 300€ from the xmas, ~370 from the weekly 10€, the money from the work and the birthday presents money, so I will have at least 1200€ for buying the gear

Whoa that DBX costs money :X 520€ @ musicstore... I think I will only want to spend max 200€ on the compressor, but whatever, thanks for the tip anyway ;)
You are speaking about the Behringer Composer PRO-XL MDX2600? and what do you mean with "throw a couple THAT vca's in it along with a toroidal transformer it sounds very nice"?

Thank you both for the help that you are giving to me ;)

hmmm do you know other way to buy one of those than ebay??? I use ebay, but only for clothes... and don't like to use it very much, cuz the customs doesn't like me :X and it takes lots of time to get the stuff that is apprehended

wimpy?

Could you describe how exactly the RNC failed on vocals? What didn't it do? I have had my RNC a couple weeks now and so far it's handled everything I've given it, which is just about everything, including guitar cab, bass cab, bass DI, keyboards, singing and yes, rapping. When rapping, I just had to make sure it wasn't on "super nice" mode and mess with the attack setting quite a bit, but then, no problem.

so.. what compressor should I get instead of the RNC (can't get it) and the >2000 Behringer's Composer from ebay?

sorry if I didn't specified, but i dont pretend to buy any gear from ebay. Thanks anyway ;)

I don't care where you get it! That is just an example of what to get! Do I have to hold your hand when you cross the street too?

I pretend to buy lots of gear, also. It still seems to end up on my credit card statement.
