Compressor and Channel Inserts

This may sound stupid but can someone tell me how to connect a compressor via channel inserts on a mixer?
mabye a diagram or something can help...

A cheannel Insert has two unbalanced feeds. You use a stereo jack for the plug. The tip of the plug is the send and the ring the return and the sleeve is the earth. If you didn't understand that go to your local shop and buy a stereo jack to two mono jacks.

Right now the tip(send is pligged into the compressor and the return plugged into the output. Now you should have signal into and out of the compressor.
