Only Roel is smart. I wish I was smart too. And that's all I have to say about that.

Gobbledygook?

Gobbledygood is an amazing word?

Now "supercalifragalisticexpialadocious," that's an amazing word.

bruce, I take it you have a grudge of sorts with this tyler fellow?

There are as many examples as the size of Tyler-rookie's post count, but this one speaks for itself (towards the bottom, if you don't want to read ALL of Tyler-rookie's nonsense) --> tyler's er... "wisdom"

maybe I'm taking that thread out of context, or it's because I always try to look for the good in people....... but even though it seems tyler is quite the dumbass, it appears in that thread that you're antagonizing him bruce... and then he goes into that "I'll trace your ip" bullshit, which is just plain dumb.

You would have had to see all the other threads... it all started when he posted nothing but nonsense in response to people's questions...

You really don't want to read all 80 or so of his posts... it's drivel and nonsense concocted by a 15-year-old brat.......

ok bruce, since you think you know it all, im going to "sit back" and listen.

Is there anything wrong with the samson s-com or s-com plus compressors, or is the dbx still better? Because I really hate the way the dbx is laid out.

and is it better than the 3630?

Tyler...

The 3630 is complete crap... the dbx 166xl easily outperforms it....

I haven't heard the Samson units but IMO Samson gear in general is mediocre at best....

The best value for your compressor dollar is the RNC -- no bells and whistles but is outstanding for its quality, especially considering its modest price.

Clank!! As I put on my faceplate and armour.... rough crowd.

As long as we are on the topic of compression I thought I would pass along a cool little trick I came across.

I have been bummed because I want the RNC and have been too broke to get it. Today I finally ordered one and am anxiously awaiting the little jewel. I noticed on the FMR site that the way they get the really nice compression sound is to pass the source signal through 3 compression stages. This gave me the idea of trying this with software plug-ins so I took a vocal track and inserted 3 copies of the Ultrafunk compressor. If you keep each of the settings lite around 3:1 and the attack around 7 and release around 15 you get a very good sound.

Then I decided to try and turn this into a multiband situation by putting low, mid and high EQ plugins between each comressor stage. I put cutoffs in each EQ to focus on their respective frequencies. Voila! Poor Man Multiband compression. Still working on this animal to fine tune but results are so far pretty good.

Disclaimer (This will choke a slow computer if there are other tracks going. All this was in Sonar 2.0, 800MHz machine PIII)

I am anxious to compare this method with the RNC results.

I see......

this is why I try and not post too much "information"....... I kind of have an inferiority thing, so I'm always worried I'll try and pass off something that's horribly wrong as something that's right....

I hope I haven't done this already........ :(

In another sense, Vota, posting what you "think" is right and then getting corrected is one of the great ways to learn. Ego shouldn't enter into it, after all, you're basically anonymous anyway, so who cares.

Recently I wrote something about an SM7 being a large diaphragm mic and was immediately corrected by chess. After checking the facts, it turned out he was right. I immediately thanked him for setting me straight. Hell, even knightfly screws up once in a while, and he happily (even gratefully) acknowledges when someone corrects him. It's all about learning - you'll never find out if you have misconceptions unless you put them out there for others to correct.

This is one case where it's BETTER to be wrong than to be right - if you're wrong and find out, it means you learned something that day! It's all just a matter of attitude. Some people take factual correction as a personal insult to their ego. While that may be annoying, in the end, they're only hurting themselves.;)

Besides that If you wanted to find Bruce and kill him, dont go to the trouble of tracing his IP.... His address is on his website.:D

I have only heard good things about the RNC and I belive Bruce to be right about them. I have been thinking about making this purchase on his reccomendation Myself. Right now I am using the dbx 160 from the early 70's. Its a good unit and Its been used alot on many recordings... but they are also going for alot on Ebay. My logic tells me that maybe changing compressors may be smart here .... What do you think Bruce?

But it doesnt look impressive. They should have made it green with stripes or something. Maybe if they made it take up four rack spaces and it had a big chrome grill....

Hey Bruce, and WE thought good ol' PP was bad on HC? :D Guess, homerec. gots its own PP.
Yo Tyler-recfoo' , wanna threaten me too? Come by my place? I'll warn ya, finding me is one thing (pretty hard since I got a dynamic IP...) but getting to my place could buy you an UREI compressor. No more quibbles about whether the RNC has too little lights and knobs, that the 3630 and dbx DO have.
Believe me, the UREI WILL both LOOK and SOUND better!
While you're in Holland to find me (oh-oh, I gave myself away! :D ) , go get some weed and hash (yeah dude, it's fuckin' LEGAL here! ) and smoke it to get rid of your current attitude. Hell, you might return to this BBS and act like a mature person sharing his knowledge in a civilized way.

Buh bye.

I smoked some weed today, and it was goooood....

Anyway, I'll be try to fuck with people a little less. And if I disagree, I'll just laugh behind your backs until I realize I'm wrong, and never admit it.
