Hi, its really the first time I fiddle with a compressor (a RNC) and though that it was a bad unit (hence the post in the Newbie section). I went to the store and the guy proved me that the unit was good. It turns out that the distortion problem I had also happens with the software compressors I tried after, and they're worse
.
I am recording an electric guitar. I get no distortion at all if I set the attack to ~20ms. But this also lets the initial string pluck pass and sometimes clips the inputs.
The newbie question is this: why do I need to let the string attack pass and compress after 20ms? What's happening to the signal so it gets distorted when the attack is too fast?
This is particularly true with a very bassy tone set on the guitar.
Thanks!
