I want to compress a bass track to the bass drum in one part on a song so that the gate for the bass only opens when the bass drum hits, how can i do this with audition? I know its possible i just cant remember where the option to do it is. Any help will be appreciated.

I think what you want to do is called 'ducking'. I just cant remember the easiest way to do it.

ducking? man i had a tutorial for it a while back but i cant find it... i really need this info, anyone help me out!

So, you want to combine the two tracks at that certain point in the mix? That way the compressor affects both like you mentioned?

I'm sure there's an easier way to do it.. but Take the portion you want to combine, and bounce that portion to a new track via mixdown. Then compress it... Takes more time I'm sure, but you'll achieve the same result essentially.

I think what he wants is when the bass drum plays (eg. beats 1 and 3) thats the only time you hear the bass guitar. Any other time its cut off.

Yeah, the elusive duck. I don't think Cool does it very well. At least, if it does, I'd love to know how. So would Chris Harris, and he's a hell of a nice guy who swears a lot but don't believe that about his essential nature.

yeah, tukkis is right, i only want to be able to hear the bass when the bass drum hits. i know there is a way to do it i had a tutorial i just can't remember... theres a chain out option somewhere for dynamics processing and it lets you set a seperate track's compression levels to the one your working with (i.e. set the bass's compression to the bass drum's levels)
