I've had a lingering curiosity about recording vocals for many years, mainly for rap and Hip Hop. A friend and I have free styled for a short time (he has for close to a year now however), and we're going to meet up this summer to get a group together and write some music for fun. As of now, this is just experimental to see if any of us has any real talent. If we find we're acknowledged, we'll probably dish out some cash and seriously attempt to create our own mix tapes. I'm not sure if this matters or not, but we're wanting to make old-school style rap/hip hop.

However, we do not have a clue as to where we should start. As most newbies do, we've tried computer microphones (I've tried my razor gaming mic just for shits and giggles) and it didn't work out to well xD

What sort of equipment would we need just to start off? I'd like to add that this isn't solely for rap; a couple of my friends enjoy singing and playing instruments so it would be nice if we could include them as well. I'm reading the forums/using Google, but it would be appreciated if some of you could give some advice.

Thanks :P
