so, ive been recording using a usb mic for a while now. Just using reaper, basic stuff. However, Ive got latency issues that make it nearly impossible to record multiple tracks. Im wanting to make the move to upgrade my equipment and get rid of this poor usb mic. I know next to nothing about home recording, and have managed to squeak by so far. What do I absolutely need in order to record. Ill only ever be recording one instrument at a time, so number of inputs on a device really isnt an issue, and my main instruments are banjo and guitar. Can any of you make any equipment suggestions, im on a fairly low budget, (500-700$)

Get a couple of mics and an audio interface with at least 2 inputs. Mic stands, cables .... do you have monitors, headphones?

There are so many choices, and just like assholes, everyone's got an opinion. Visit reliable online vendors like Sweetwater, read the reviews...

You're asking an extremely broad and open-ended question. The recommendations provided are solid as any within your budget.

Luck.
