Reel deep thoughts...
Can anybody advise me (or point me to a more appropriate place to post if there is one) some good methods for quantitatively comparing digital wordclocks? I have three to choose from in my studio but I'd like to be able do more than subjective comparisons in deciding which to use as the primary.

My three options are:

Yamaha i88x
Presonus Digimax FS
TimeLine Micro Lynx ACG-1 audio clock generator card

cory... what makes ya think ya need one??? of those mentioned only the lynx is really "known" for it's clock... conventional wisdom is that unless you're needing to sync up a multi room situation ya dont really need it... now if your wondering which to make master for say two little interfaces,,, then ya just use the one that's hooked to the computer... the add on secondary device thats looped into the system is set to slave...

demented...I use the clock for the DAW...here's the situation: the Presonus sounds less smeary to my ears compared to the Yamaha, and I just recently came into possession of the TimeLine ACG-1 card for my Micro Lynx...The Presonus has wordclock in on BNC, and it'll do wordclock out via Lightpipe to the Yamaha which is the "soundcard". So I can easily use any of the three as wordclock master. I haven't listened to the system when slaved to the Micro Lynx yet but I wanted to cover a more objective vantage point to go along with what my ears say.

I decided to ask "how do you quantitatively compare" vs. "dude, which one is, like, 'better'?"

I would try Passing the same audio through each clock and then null test them see if there is any difference above the digital noise floor.
