Comp / Leveller for Tracking?

I am a poor working stiff in need of an effective outboard item for comp'ing and levelling for signal going in to the mixer>soundcard. I have plug-ins for mixing.
Doesn't need to be the high-end, but must "do the gig", including a good range of ability from vox to drums. 2-channels would be great... and what about that Behringer stuff? Like that Composer? Any good? Also these:

Alesis 3630
Tapco SQ-2
Behringer Composer
Joe Meek...

Well, it's certainly a cute company. :) ...Right. Interesting to be sure- I've heard of these. Have you used the RNLA? Would you recommend this for what I'm talking about?

I'm using a Tascam M-30 to front-end the system, so I obviously don't have a problem with this "coloring" issue. I need it to be a bit flexible though.

Additional thoughts, on this slant? And which would get the stronger recommedation for tracking with?

i haven't used the rnla, but i hears it good, i do own the rnc and it's a very nice pre, clean and the supernice mode is worth the price alone.
 
I had this requirement too since I recently picked up a K2 & wanted to get some quality controlled takes. I have on order an ART Pro VLA. This unit, while some say that ART stuff is junk, has been used by some heavy hitters in the industry because of it's good sound results on many different types of sources. It's just apparently unsexy & doesn't carry the high price tag that the other tracking compressors carry that people like to show off. Order one soon because I think they are being faded out because they seem to be being bought up pretty quick.
