I'm just starting to use a Limiter when I master my sessions in Pro Tools. What are some common limiter settings that you use for different situations? I want to know if I'm on the right track.

"How long is a piece of string?" -- same kind of question........

Which limiter? Unless you're including compressors set up for limiting, a lot of them only have threshold to adjust. Then it's input level vs how much do you want to lop off (-xx gain reduction...?

I think the first questions you have to ask even before inserting a limiter are:

What is the relationship between the transients vs. the average level. Are these transients eating up needed headroom that could be better used to increase the overall volume?

Is removing the transients appropriate for the style of music?

If the answers are yes to both, try a 10:1 ratio with the threshold bouncing over the transients that you want to limit. In general fast attack fast release to get in and out as quickly as possible.
