Hi folks - I've just recorded this slowed down version of Please Please Me after coming across a youtube clip (audio only) of Keith Richards playing a slow acoustic version. Anyway, I'm working on getting a decent acoustic sound with the limited equipment I've got - so I'm looking for feedback on guitar and vocal sounds (recorded in a small, cluttered and untreated bedroom, a matched pair of SE1A's about 6 inches from the guitar and a SE2200A taking in the room about 2 feet back, both straight into a tascam us-1800) and also any feedback on the general quality of mix etc will be appreciated. Thanks in advance folks!

Guitar was captured well. There are quite a few string squeaks, some are loud. But overall, nice tonal balance on the guitar.

Vocals sound good, a little pitchy but I don't think that's the kind of comments your asking for. ;) I didn't hear any sibilance, lip smacks or other singing artifacts, so you did a good job recording and mixing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback Chili, appreciated. I'm not sure what you mean by pitchy? Are the vox out of tune? Re the string squeaks that's just my poor technique - I assume there's nothing you can do about these after recording!

The vocal quality is not bad at all.. I'm no guitarist but it seems like some notes had a bit of a distortion effect.. like between 16 to 18 seconds. It would be great if that was fixed. Aside from that this is very solid. Just my 2 cents from a casual listener.

I think this is a cool idea to slow this song down 'cause the original is so peppy.

Yes, by pitchy he means not quite hitting all of the notes, but I don't think it's too bad...probably better than mine.

If it were me, I'd compress the hell out of those vocals and throw some verb on them. At times they were a bit boomy and at others indistinct. I thought the acoustic guitar sounded good. It just didn't seem like the vocals and guitar were in the same bedroom. I also thought the piano parts were a little rough rhythmically.

Don't mean to sound too negative. You did well and it's a challenging number to play as the melody is still ingrained in a lot of heads after all these years.

That's great - thanks for the comments folks. I'll try compression on the vocals and put some verb on them too. Appreciate the time you've taken to give a bit feedback.
