Comments on my process?

Well, I've been doing some stuff with me and my friend and I'm pretty sure that the way I've been doing things somewhat strange. I've been very happy with the results--pleasently surprised. I kind of want to describe the process I go through for mixing and the like and would appreciate any comments about how I could improve.

First, I should say that the music I've been working on is a form of electronic and very rough around the edges. I know I'm not the best at production, so instead of making my mix sound as crisp as possible, I embraced my poor talent and tried to make it fit with the theme of the music.

So, to the process. I have four instruments that usually I have to worry about in the mix; a synth, a bass(amped and mic'd), guitar(amped and mic'd), and drums(sequenced in fruityloops).

And this will may come as a horror to some people, but for software in which I am doing the mixing and arranging is fruityloops (3.56 or something?). I record with cooledit, tweak the recording a bit, then export it to a .wav so that I can sequence in fruityloops.

Then, within fruityloops I use the effects thing to apply plug-in effects. I do my EQing here, and my compression, and other things like delays and phasors, etc. For my chain in the effects thing it usually goes(I think I could use some help here on order):

effect -> compressor -> EQ

I guess I have some questions about .wav conversions in fruityloops, how big of a hit am I taking? Also, how big of hit do I take when I am using cool-edit (cool-edit is where I do wav manipulations for exportation to fruityloops).

Any one gone down this path before?

you lost me, but if it's the sound your looking for and you have descent ears, go with it. You should go for a good clean recording before worrying about compression, effects, and EQ's. You have a link to anything you've recorded? That would help better in identifying your process and pointing out where improvements can be made.

oh, forgot to ask? Are you worried about the degradation with the .wav files? You shouldn't have anything to worry about if you are. Those are umcompressed audio files, nothing should be lost there. The issue would be if you are recording 24bit 96khz or whatever and then bringing down the sound quality when you import to your other program... 16/44.1 is cd quality but for monitoring your mixes its best to have the highest possible quality.
