This may be a dumb question, but do combo jacks (xlr and 1/4") compromise the quality of xlr? I've always heard that xlr is the highest quality audio cable available, is this even true? Thanks!

A connection is a connection.

XLR is no different than a 1/4 TRS connector as far as quality goes.

You may be after the diff between balanced & unbalanced & the potential for quality variation between the two.

The XLR may be a little less noisy for dirrect recording, otherwise there is little difference.

The 1/4 jack on the combo jacks are almost always balanced.
