Sorry if this is painfully obvious but my eyes are all burning from hours of searching forums for help and finding nothing but people bragging about their rigs and not telling how all of those pieces of gear/software are working together w/ each other and I give up!

I've been recording vocals, guitar, bass, percussion instruments like hi-hat, tambourine, etc. with an old 4-track cassette recorder I've been using as a mixer and sending the signal from it to my soundcard and into Audacity. I have actual rack-style compressor/expander and reverb that I really like already.

BUT I want to add some sampled drums and synth-y things, however. I have my sights set on Propellerhead Reason to do all of this. But you can't record external audio with it.

So how the sam hill would I put the music I make in Audacity together with the music I'd make with Reason? Can you export Reason files and paste them into Audacity somehow?

AFAIK, Audacity neither supports midi nor rewire so reason would be almost useless if you continue using audacity. I would look at reaper instead
