It is cool that you are are all hooking up with some online recording. I am kinda new to the recording stuff, but I can throw down a pretty heavy rythm on guitar. Anyone want to try something along these lines?

I don't have any complete songs online, but i have some short riffs here:

got anything complete? I'm totally new to recording myself. I would like to see if I can add anything usefull.

Nope

Don't have anything complete, just some ideas and some lyrics...
It is hard to get far without a rythm section. Need someone who plays bass and someone who plays drums to put our heads together and come up with some stuff......

Why not sit down with your acoustic and work on a fully function song? That's how most collabs start anyway. People add to what you already have. It's difficult to write a whole tune from the ground up as a group on the internet.

So write your song, and then post it and ask for a collab?

well if you can put some kind of a somewhat complete scratch track with guitar and maybe the vocal track, I will see if I can come up with a drum part. Maybe a bass player will chime in in the mean time. Cant help with anything else because I dont play any other instruments, I cant write and you dont want to hear me try to sing.

Make sure you record to a click track, or the timing will be waaaaay off...

I'll see what I can come up with, I am not sure that I know enough about song structure to come up with something good, but I will see what I can do. I will definitely play to a click track, but in the end, I can play the rythm guitar track over with the the drums and bass in place to get a little tighter sync if necessary.

StudioMxpx: need lead guitar? or mixing?
Yea, I don't really have much in the way of lead chops, so if you can contribute something there, you are welcome to join in. Got anything we can hear, as to what kind of style leads you can play, tone, etc? Just to make sure we all "gel"

one thing I was thinking about the click....is there any way that the click can be on its own track? I tried playing along with one of the scratch tracks that someone else did that had a click mixed in with guitar and vocals but the click mostly got lost in the vocals. It would be cool to be able to be able to crank up the click in the headphones relative to the guitar or whatever.

Simplest way would be for each person to utilize their own click...
Agree on a tempo and then when you are laying down your tracks, set your metronome to the bpm that everyone will be recording to.
For collabrative projects, it would be best if everyone gave a count-in on their own tracks as well... helps to line up all the tracks later on... It won't be impossible if each track doesn't have the count-in, but easier... As the drummer, you DEFINITELY need to provide it with your contribution... :)
Scratch tracks can have the click guiding throughout but, as you've noticed, the click can get lost in the mix...

Good luck and have fun!

yeah i have some stuff you can hear go here http://www.myspace.com/infectedimpact (not the best leads on the site at all:( )

im not the best guitar player...but if i have a rythem guitar tracks i can add some pretty good leads...or i can do some lead riffs :D
