The piano at my church is being mic'd with an old SM58 clone placed dead center over the strings and about 6" up. It sounds muffled and uninspiring and the lower and higher keys don't seem to be picked up as well. We do have phantom power on the main board so I was thinking a couple of condenser mic's would sound a LOT better.
I was able to get $500 budgeted for mic's for the piano and an acoustic guitar and was hoping to get some advice and recommendations on mic types, placement, etc.
The piano is a large grand piano style with a flip up lid.
