The wife and I sat down withthe bills last night and set our budge for Christmas this year. So I'm thinking about a couple ideas for my Christmas wish list...
The first is a new vocal mic ($500 to $750 range). Wouldn't mind if it also sounded great with acoustic guitar. I'm thinking maybe:
Shure KSM42
Rode K2
AT4050
or maybe something Tube...?
I currently have a Rode NT1, Rode NTK, MXL 990 and Shure KSM27. I have an old AKG414 on long term loan, but fear it may have to go home soon
This would be primarily for baritone range male vocals. Anything else I should consider?
The other option is for some better overhead mics. I use a pair of Audix F15s for some stuff and I'll combine the NT1 and NTK sometimes. The later combo was just for kicks and actually didn't turn out too bad.
I don't close mic toms, just a 5 mic setup (2 OH, Snare, Bass, HH). Would a pair of AKGs C1000s round out my options?
Lastly, I could throw in a bit of my own funds and replace the AKG414 when it get's recalled by it's actual owner.
This may be a can of worms, but I just haven't kept up with that many new developments in mics so I'm guessing I'll hear some new names on this one
Thanks!
