Aight I got a question, with a mixer when I'm recording a chorus/hook is there any way that I can just like copy/paste the original chorus into the approperiate places on the instrumental without takin the instrumental with the vocals...I only want to copy the vocals from the chorus and move it around accordingly but how do I do that when the mixer automaticly mixes the beat with the vocals?

(A) What are you using?

(B) Have you read the manual?

Mic: MXL 990 Condensor Mic
Mixer: Behringer Eurorack UB1002
Soundcard: Sound Blaster Audigy 2
Software: Cool Edit Pro 2.0

And yes I've read the manual to the mixer but it didn't really say anything about that...not in plain English anyway

Sounds like basic cut and paste editing. You do this in the track view in CEP, not on either the HW or SW mixer.

Mix down just the chorus and make it one track.. Then you can move it anywhere.

You can only do this if the vocals are on a separate track from the music. If that's the case, then it's simple copy/paste.

If your vocals are already mixed into the same track with the music, you will never be able to separate the vocals from the music and do what you want to do.

Hope this helps!

ok...better question, how, with a mixer, can I record just the vocals without the beat? 'Cause the beat automatically gets mixed together with the vocals

Why not record the beat to a stereo track in CEP first? Then, you can monitor the recorded beat track while recording your vocal to a separate (mono) track in CEP, without mixing the two signals together. Then, you'll mix them together inside the software.

i think everyone is misunderstanding.

hes asking how he can take an already mixed stereo song and take the vocals out of it and have a chorus without any vocals in it.

The beats and the vocals are not mixed automatically. They are mixed period. You cant take them out buddy. Not mixer in the world will be able to do that for you.

I thought he was trying to lay vocals over an existing music track, but running them both through the mixer and recording them together.

ummm Darnold....NO - I want to lay my OWN vocals to an instrumental but want to know how to record just MY vocals without the beat mixing in with it so I can move MY vocals around

oooh ok i understand now. It might be your settings on your Sound Blaster Audigy. If you have it set to "record what you hear" then it will do just that. I would check that first.

Either that or you dont have the vocals routing out different channels as the music.
