I am looking to buy a new snare, preferrably a piccolo snare, but i feel that i should ask the opinion of others to make sure i am getting what i want. here are my criteria:

1. I want a very tight crack with little snare buzz after the initial beat.

2. I want more of a mid-high range of frequencies

3. I want a snare with a little ringing after the beat but not a loud ring that goes on for 30 seconds like i have now..

Now the question is posed.. What brand and what model snare should i get? I'm thinking:

any suggestions would be helpful!

Pearl has a 3 1/2 x 13 Maple Piccolo (I don't remember the model) which is in a "burnt orange" finish (may come in other finishes) the Mars price was around $169.00. It is one of the best sounding Piccolo drums I've found - tight crack with the right amount of snare buzz. I'm not a fan of metal snares - I like the warmth of wood.

I actually had a guitar player approach me and ask what snare I was useing. He said "that's the way a snare is supppose to sound" - and wanted to tell his drummer to buy one.

The only thing I did to enhance the sound was to put an Evans "Dry Vent" on the batter side.

Good luck in your search.

thanks

hey yeah i looked at that snare too, i dunno though, i guess i'll just try all the possible snares i can try.. but i do want a starting point. i tried the dry vents but the sound was too dead

thanks
