Ok, I was hoping for some guidance on upgrading my FireWire Interface for something with a bit more hmmm how shall we say it Khz? I am currently using an M-Audio FireWire Solo which kind of worked out in the beginning. Now I've upgraded some of my components and I need to get up to date with the audio card.

I currently have in my system:-
Apple G5 Dual
Avalon AD2022
Avalon U5
Neumann TLM 103
Neumann SKM 184
DBX 1066
M-Audio FireWire Solo (to be replaced)
(Yes I know the obvious lack of a mixer, that's another mind field)
Software - most likely going to stick with Logic 7, although I am somewhat open in this area too...

My recording right now is mainly acoustic guitar, some electric (although I am considering Native Instruments' Guitar Rig for this), bass and vocals. I anticipate in the future some more midi work with keyboards, but I don't really envisage much percussion / drums. If anything I would probably stick to sampling etc.

Until today I was going with the MOTU 896HD. I got cold feet and pulled the plug as I felt I had not done enough due dillegence on researching the best product for my system. The 896HD seems to have too many features that are not really what I want the system for such as live performance. My requirements are simple, the best Audio Interface for recording sound in a studio. I plan on using the Avalon so I'm not interested in the quality of the preamps in the interface.

What suggestions do people have? My budget is probably up to $1,500. I have looked at FireFace. Should I move up to something with a PCI-E card? Do we have any yet?

Thanks for any advice ahead of time!

The Fireface is a solid performer (I have one) but if you're not interested in a shitload of I/O options but sheer sound quality (which the Fireface by all means doesn't lack by the way) you might want to check out the Lynx interfaces.
I haven't played with one yet but people seem to be blown away by them.
