Chevelle - seeking Boom that complements Kick

Curious if anyone knows of a good synth, sample, whatever that resembles the Booming thump that Chevelle uses on the Wonder What's Next album. A good example of this would be on the track, "Comfortable Liar." This complements the kick in parts.

I am not certain but, I believe they simply record a second bass track where they hit a single note once in a while. Then they run it through a pitch shift plug-in which curves the pitch downward while the note is being played. Listen closely and you can hear what I mean. I think "Disturbed" does the same thing on some of their songs too, like Stupified. It does sound pretty cool. :cool:
