junkmanistan, acutally your kinda off with that idea. I actually came here completely oblivious as to the musicial background of the regulars here. some one told me to post this here from another board, so I did, that was the only reason for my post. You jumped the gun on me, I only noticed the musical tastes of most of this board after I posted, which is why I added that second reply, 'cause I noticed a lot of people had viewed it but no one had actually commented on it. I'm usually ok with criticism, believe me. The only reason I had become a little peeved was because some one said what I did wasnt music, ok, 'cause that just rubbed me the wrong way. As for spelling and other typos, meh, on message boards I don't even care if some one corrects me, Fitzgerald gave us all a great excuse to be lazy, didn't he.

As for glass and eno versus the beatles, I agree that most would find the beatles more accessible, but to avid music-philes as myself, Eno and Glass, my current favorite -Polmo Polpo, and such, they just appeal on a more raw emotional level, which I find to be even more easily accessible if you can approach it with an opened mind. One thing I like about this music is that it is language-less, so it's understandability rests entirely on the ability of the composer, musician to convey emotions with out words, which makes it work in any demographic. I admit that those comments might have been kid of elitist in tone, but it was reactionary elitism, in the moment frustration, I wouldn't have really felt the need to bring that up in a regular state of mind.

Sicvita. A simple question here, and not one requiring an epic monologue of your profound musical knowledge: Are you here for recording tips or is this just another forum for you to post in as an exercise in publicity?

We've already done the Jesse Michael Garcia thing here, and quite frankly nobody is interested in somebody that feels a need to tell us what music really is. I would figure it's kind of an implicit understanding...build up a bit of a reputation by "talking the talk" before you go and start a pissing match with some of this board's cooler members.

once again we have a youngster who wants us to praise his initial daubings?

i listened to a little bit and didnt like it. not because of the attitude but that doesnt help either.

you cant blame poor sound quality on streaming mp3 and the listener's speakers.

you cant blame poor musicianship on the listeners taste in music and/or occupation.

turn it down, you do realize that if a songs 5 and a half minutes long, then to accurately judge it you should hear the song from beginning to end. the 'climax doesn't even happen til minute 4, so you kind just read a short story and stopped at the last sentence, even though the whole point of the story was to slowly build to that last sentence.

If a sandwich sucks, do you keep eating it, hoping it gets better? No.

Dude, You asked for opinions, then freaked out whenver someone told you what you already knew. It's crap....

Very Mogwai/Sigur Ros-ish.

I think the drum sound in MiniRanch fits it reallly well. Awesome song. Very powerful.

I'll Be Your Radar Is.. umm.. not too much. It sounds as if it would be more of an intro to a CD or a filler track. Not so much an actual song. It's still cool.. just not very song-like.

Scivita...
You can send me all the negative reps you want, but I still didn't like your audio file. (Not really a "Song"...)

You'll need a thicker skin to play on this board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D :D :D

I liked it. I didn't have a problem with the one-mic drums. To me, it sounded intentionally lo-fi. i wouldn't have known if you didn't tell me. I'm listening at very low levels and with a fair bit of background noise, so just like the negative comments, take them for what they're worth.

Reminded me of Sigur Ros.

I think that the song-development still needs time to mature a bit, but I would happily throw on a 20 minute version of this track while making love (an I'd have 18 minutes left over to listen to it when I'm done).

LMAO! Thanks for bringing a little humor to a very tense thread!

Well... certainly not my genre so I really can't comment to any degree as to what I think the mix may need... I did understand what 'Radar' was about (I think) by the time it finished, and 'Ranch' seemed to have a breaking glass noise (that almost was to the point of clipping) appearing to be present at the center of the stereo field... That was probably the only part of Ranch that I wished wasn't there (or perhaps, not as pronounced).

But again... that might have been the theme you were shooting for and I missed it during the first run-through... There were plenty of other nuances that I would revisit with headphones on (the radio-speaker vocal chatter was intriguing).

If a person were to come watch you perform these live, how close to the recordings would the performance be? Not that it makes a difference as to the quality of the song, I just get the impression that these are kind of set into a loose frame and the structure can vary based on the moment and or mood...?

Or... like I said earlier... I could be clueless about it..

I should also mention that I agree with some of the other posts... If you put your stuff out there and ask for comments, you really can't pick and choose which comments are the 'right' ones... If 9 out of 10 are giving me the thumbsup on a song, I'm usually wanting to talk to the 10th person to see what didn't work in their ears...

But again... I've been known to be clueless... lol

:D

you've got to pick and choose who and what you listen to on these threads. You'd do yourself a disservice to ignore all of the negative comments, but you'd also do yourself a disservice to take to heart negative comments -- specially if you feel that the person giving them just doesn't like the style.. doesn't understand what you're going for.. etc.

Also, learn to work with the comments appropriate to your skill level. Some comments will be obvious things you knew, and some will be too complex for you to grasp. I've started to listen to things differently after recieving some comments on this board, but certainly, not all of the comments are useful -- and the REALLY positive ones, as welcome as they are, are only good for inflating ego -- not for improving your trade.

I actually like this stuff....
Very creative, good job.
